The other day,\u00a0Whitni Nelson<\/a>\u00a0was paddleboarding off Mexico\u2019s Central Pacific Coast with her husband and dog when she spotted a strange-looking log in the distance. She noticed that the log appeared to have some kind of animal on it, so she decided to get closer and investigate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, \u2018What the heck is that?\u2019\u201d Nelson told The Dodo.<\/p>\n

As Nelson got closer, she realized that the animal on the log was an iguana. She\u2019d seen iguanas swimming in the ocean before, but never so far out to sea.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201c[T]hey\u2019re great swimmers, but it was very, very far out from shore, maybe a mile,\u201d Nelson said. \u201cAnd the current was very strong that day.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no way to know how the iguana ended up in such deep waters, but Nelson suspected that the lizard had ended up there by accident and needed help.<\/p>\n

\u201c[M]aybe it was asleep on the log when the tide came up and then it drifted out,\u201d Nelson said. \u201cOr maybe he \u2026 got tired and found the log and got on it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
